French Braid

Libby loves to type letters on my computer. She really enjoys typing emails to Papa and playing Jane, the Pink Robot (Jane has really helped her to learn her letters – I’d highly recommend checking it out). The other night she was typing away and let me french braid her hair. I was only able to do one side because Libby explained that she didn’t like braids, but might when she’s older!

Crazy for the Colts!

Libby wore her Colt’s gear to Mom’s Day Out today!

GO BLUE! Libby was getting confused when I was taking the pictures…she kept saying GO HOOSIERS! We drilled it into her head for the game we went to on NYE!

These pom-poms where mine back in the day, but I used them to cheer for the Cowboys (I was young and stupid. . .what can I say)!

quick, easy, delicious cake

We spent a few days up in the Chicago area and had this delicious cake for dessert one night courtesy of Ethan’s Grandma and Grandpa Hunt. It’s very similar to Jello Cake (any gamma phi alums out there will remember our weekly dessert staple at the house!

Here’s a link to the recipe for Toffee Poke Cake – yum!

Deep Thoughts from an almost 3 year old

-”I don’t like the seaweed” (said after eating spinach and cheese ravioli)

- said to Mike “I need you to do something….dance for me.”

-L: “I’m just a little bit sad sometimes that just happens”
shannon: do you want me to give you a hug or a kiss – hold you for a bit?
L: “that will not help”
about 5 minutes later
L: “I feel much better; I’m not sad anymore”

- A few weeks ago I was getting dressed and I asked Libby what my bra was called. She announced ” it’s a boobie-sewsie” and ever since then it’s stuck! Every time she says it or I think of that word I can’t help but laugh. Her Ariel toys wear boobie-sewsies as does her Malibu barbie!

- “I have to go poop. It’s knocking on the door.” (SERIOUSLY?! From my sweet little girlie girl?!)

Friends

We were able to see lots of friends before/during/after the holidays and are so thankful! Here are a few pics of L and her buddies:

We saw the Hunt’s the weekend before Christmas and enjoyed visiting, pizza, salad, bread sticks and a warm fire. Libby had a great time playing with Ethan and was very impressed his Grandma had a baby doll.

A few days after Christmas, Peyton and AnnaCate came to visit and had a sleepover! Libby was a big help with AnnaCate – feeding her applesauce and trying to be a good Mommy to her!

You’ll notice Libby’s hair looks greasy in the photos above…I put vaseline on her lips before bed each night and made the mistake of leaving the tube on her nightstand. . .apparently she had some trouble falling asleep the night before and decided to deep condition her hair with half the bottle of vaseline!! We had to wash it 4 times before it was back to normal!

On NYD we headed to the Murphy’s open house. In addition to visiting the Murphy’s we got to see the Pucci’s and Pfister’s. Libby had a great time playing with Griffin and Connor – Connor has more toys than I’ve ever seen in one house!

Christmas Eve Family Photos

With Nanny and Papa

Just the three of us!

Group shot

Mike highlighted a number of our pre-Christmas events on his blog, too. In case you missed them: we went to see Santa (this was huge! Libby was terrified last year but did great this year), went to zoo lights and pizza with friends, saw some reindeer, and had our Christmas card photos taken by the talented Nate.

Nanny and Papa’s House

My parents spent a lot of time making decisions about their new house while they were here. Here are a few pics…I labeled as best I could to give you an idea of what you are looking at. Since these photos were taken, windows and doors have been installed and I believe the brick exterior is in progress. Note: While Nanny and Papa were here, they also made Libby’s dream come true and took her to Denny’s for waffles! Libby ate most of the waffles and seemed to enjoy her experience!

This is the front of the house. The 3-car garage is to the right, front porch and front door are behind the work trucks/porta-potty. One the left (with big windows is the office) – better photo below.

You can see more of the office and then further to the left you can see my Mom’s closet. No joke. The entire space surrounding the octagonal window is Susan’s closet. I’m pretty sure one of our children will also call it a bedroom.

I’m not sure, but I think this photo was taken from my parents bedroom with the great room on the other side (it’s a double sided fireplace). Note: the wrong fireplace was installed – a larger fireplace is on order and will be installed. I like all the arch ways my parents added in the house – nice touch.

This is the back of the house. Papa is standing under the covered porch, adjacent to that will be a patio. Half their lot is situated on a large pond and the other half on creek/woods. There’s also a bike path along one side of their property that hooks up to the Monon.

Catch-up post

I think this is the longest I’ve ever gone without posting…we’ve been busy:

decorating the tree (I have no idea about the outfit here?! I’m thinking we were doing a princess dress wardrobe change and got caught up in tree decorating?!)

decorating the mantle

decorating cookies

Libby LOVED making these cookies and they’re so easy…round pretzels – stick a rolo in the center (Libby loved unwrapping and eating the rolos!) – put in oven or toaster oven on a low temp for about 5 min…until rolos begin to melt. Remove from oven..smash rolo down with a pecan or almond (or any nut of your liking) and place tray in refrigerator until the “cookies” are hard. They are delicious, easy and fun!

Long time – no see

I apologize for the lack of posts…things were just. busy. I have quite a few posts in draft form and promise to post soon (including pictures of my parents house progression that I know my over 40 readers have been waiting somewhat-patiently for).

In the mean time, I saw this recipe for Baked Ziti in the Williams-Sonoma catalog and thought it looked outstanding. Probably not one L would enjoy, but easy enough to put some plain ziti and pasta aside for her to enjoy. You could also leave out the meat and make it vegetarian….YUM!

I also want to try this Racheal Ray eggplant parm recipe – I’ll try anything that takes less than 30 minutes. I’ve never made eggplant parm but my Mom orders it frequently and it always looks so good. Keep your fingers crossed – it will be new recipe, Italian weekend at our house this weekend!
