status bar update

Mike installed an update on my blog a while ago and in the process the status bar I had to the left broke. So I thought I’d provide an update here (to tide ya’ll over until my tech support updates my site):

reading:about ready to take the plunge and start Twilight

eating: fresh peaches from the farmer’s market

making: Disney princess hair bows (Tinkerbell, too)

listening to: the new Dave Matthews Band

planning: for a vacation

Bounce House

Our neighbors got a bounce house today (Happy Birthday, Grant!) and Libby loved bouncin’ round. We’re looking forward to bouncin’ more after her nap.

Recipes

Mike made two outstanding recipes for dinner this weekend – both blog/online recommendations from One More Moore.

Grilled Veggie Sandwiches these were outstanding. I bought the ingredients at the grocery store, but now that the Farmer’s Market (and our Saturday routine) is up and running, this will be great to make with all the fresh veggies

Tomato and Zucchini Pasta This was great because I could pull out plain pasta for Libby and Mike and I enjoyed the real thing.

Daily Fun

Every morning one of the first things Libby does is open our TV armoire and pull our the boxes of DVDs we have. She locates the Disney movies (typically all in the same box) and lines them up. She studies the covers, talks to the characters and lines them up.

Recently, she discovered we also have a collection of Disney movies on VHS and has started lining them up as part of her daily routine.

Strawberry Picking

We had a great time picking strawberries today at Spencer Farms. Libby loved to pick (and EAT) the strawberries. She also thought it was fun to hold the box!

Fun Friday

I never considered myself a very spontaneous person – I am always up for adventure, but a well planned and thought-out adventure…being a Mom has changed that!

We had a fun and spontaneous Friday night! I got a ping from Tiffany as Libby and I were walking out the door to go to Target pn Friday afternoon – she invited us to join her and the family for a Rudi Toonz show. We’ve gone to a few other Rudi Toonz shows (that Libby LOVED), so after a quick conversation for Mike we were ready!

We headed over to the Junior Achievement Center (what an amazing space) and reserved some seats. Little did I know the seats were not necessary. The show started out with a drummer beating a few loud beats and Libby air drummed right along with him! Scott wasn’t through his first song when Libby was asking if she could go in front of the stage and dance…that’s right – she was headed for the toddler mosh pit!

Libby did not stop dancing, jumping, moving or hugging (see picture below…Libby LOVED this little girl – I have a feeling the Princess PJs and pigtails had something to do with it!) for the entire hour long show! It was fun to watch her as she first went in front of the stage to dance and with each song she got braver and braver….closer and closer to Scott and the center of the stage! Our friend Nate laughed and said “I think she’s going to like musicians…you’ve got at groupie on your hands!”.

The great thing about Rudi Toonz is Mike and I enjoy the music just as much as Libby (I’ve been singing Hip Hop Hippopotamus in my head since Friday night)! We bought a CD so we can enjoy the music year round.

We’re looking forward to catching the next Rudi Toonz concert at West Park on July 22 (it’s FREE!).

Spring

Our peony bush was beautiful last week. Those have to be one of my favorite flowers; I only wish they lasted longer! Now that the peony’s are gone, I am looking forward to seeing our our hydrangea bushes bloom.

Random thoughts….

I’ve read a few things recently that I found interesting:

- Women on a low-calorie diet who ate an egg with toast and jelly each morning lost twice as many pounds as those who had a bagel breakfast with the same number of calories but no eggs, a study from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge reports. (from Self)

- Disney is going to create a traditional 2-D movie set to release in 2011 staring none other than Winnie the Pooh! Toy Story 3 in 3-d is set for 2010! Can you tell I’ve got Disney movies on the mind? We’re thinking about taking Libby to see Up! this weekend (our first family outing to the movie theatre!).

- According to Nielsen, Sesame Street ranks 15th among the top children’s shows on TV. HOW CAN THIS BE?! I adore this show and it’s one of only two Libby watches (the other being Word World which came highly recommended by my reading specialist sister in law). Some days I think I like to watch Sesame Street just as much if not more than Libby!

- First Lady, Michelle O’bama in Gap…gotta love that!

P.S. Mike beat me to our weekend re-cap.

Summer Drinks

My neighbor requested I make a pitcher of skip and go naked at their 500 after party and I gladly obliged (3 of my neighbors now ALWAYS have limeade in their freezer because of this drink!). I love that drink and remembered I wrote down a few new summer drink recipes I wanted to try….

Lemonade Margaritas
2 1/4 cup Lemonade
3/4 cup tequilla
(does it get any easier?!)

I didn’t jot down the name of this drink – I’m sure we can come up with something to call it….
1 cup lemonade
2 cup champagne
2 T cranberry juice

I also picked up some pomegranate limeade at Trader Joe’s last week. It’s great on its own but I’m thinking it would be awesome thrown in a blender with ice and some vodka.

Enjoy!
