I’ve received lots of requests for details on our weekend in Houston…here you go:
Thursday - We left for Houston at the crack of dawn - 4:45 am! Libby did great with the early wake up call and plane ride. We on the ground in Houston by 7:30 am!! My Mom arrived at 9:30 am, so we got our luggage/rental car and grabbed some breakfast close to the airport. After Susan arrived, we headed to Casa de Martinez/Saenz and were quickly put to work! My Mom and I worked with Ellen and Erin on packaging the 300+ homemade turtles Posey’s Mom made and cutting menu cards. Libby and Posey’s niece, Ella became fast friends (the large screen TV broadcasting Seasame Street helped!). After a lunch of Texas BBQ (I forget where it came from) we headed to the hotel so Miss Libby could take a nap. Mike also napped and my Mom and I finished the placecards Mike and I made for the wedding.
We grabbed dinner at Jax Grill with the Martinez family and friends. Chicked Fried Chicken and dessert in a chocolate sack were enjoyed by all. Libby also enjoyed playing with a beer bottle in between rounds of peek a boo with the entire table (she’s quite the ham).
Friday morning started with an early pick-up from the bride to be. She was getting a blow-out in preparation for some “engagement” pictures. My Mom and I got manis and pedis while waiting. I got my hair cut (it’s tragic, but hopefully will grow out soon - I won’t go into it, but once again no matter how much I explain and plead I end up with the chin length clump. To my stylists credit, there wasn’t much she could do - so I’ll work on growing out the clump).
Friday afternoon my Mom and I did some shopping and tracked down a card box for the reception. Friday evening, Mike and I were lucky enough to have the night to ourselves to attend the rehearsal and dinner. A good time was had by all at the Armadillo Palace. We ate great food, drank plenty of margarritas, watch a professional hand-role cigars and listened to the Jon Wolfe Band. It was quite a treat to have a night out with friends (thanks, Mom).
Saturday started with a bridal luncheon, followed by make-up at the MAC store, and hair at Studio 3. We got dressed at Posey’s alma mater and took pics with Nathan. The ceremony and reception were flawless and I feel lucky to be a part of it. Libby did great during the ceremony but got a little grumpy at the reception. Special thanks to my parents for leaving the reception early to take Libby home and get her into bed.
Sunday we rallied and got up early to go to the much anticipated Buffalo Grille for breakfast. The wait wasn’t too bad at 9:30 am and we all enjoyed a delicious breakfast. Then it was off to the airport and time to go home! Libby did great on the flight home other than going to the potty as we took off and now having terrible diaper rash.
We made a deal with the newly married Mr. and Mrs. Saenz that we would take turns visiting one another in our respective cities each year. We are looking forward to welcoming the Saenz’ to Indianapolis in 2009!
