Happy (belated) Grandparents Day!

Grandparents Day was Sunday, so Happy Grandparents Day to all the Grandmas and Grandpas out there. We took these pics of Libby on Labor Day and Mike whipped up some cute cards to send. We thought the Grandparents would enjoy seeing Libby sitting on her own. . . I guess she’s been doing this since mid-August, so it’s not exactly a *new* trick, but impressive none the less!

Neat gadget

I’m not ashamed to admit it; I’m a banana snob.  I prefer them bright yellow with a tinge of green and absolutely NO BROWN SPOTS.  To that end, I thought this was a neat gadget, especially for back to school time:  the Banana Saver.  Useful and cheap!

The website has a recipes section that shows you how to use the saver to make various nutricious treats, too.  Gotta love a chocolate covered banana on a stick!

On a side note we’ve been putting a small chunk of banana in Libby’s “net” and she loves it!  We typically give her ice to suck on (in the net) after she eats and she loves that, too.  I guess it’s fair to say Libby loves everything having to do with eating (except peas).

Busy. Busy. Busy.

Not much to report and no picture to post.  The past few weekends and every weekend in October I will be assiting Nate of Nathaniel Edmunds Photography shoot weddings in the midwest.  While I enjoy this tremendously, I am left exhausted on Sunday/Monday.  Let me just say, I am looking forward to November!  The good news is Libby and Mike are getting some quality time together on Saturdays – hanging out without Mom.  On a side note, I think I will start laying out outfits for Libby to wear on Saturdays.  While I am sure she appreciates Dad’s comfort approach, I am not sure she appreciated going to the Zionsville fall festival parade on Saturday morning with white fleece sweat pants on size 0-3 month – Libby hasn’t worn these since April.  On a side note, Mike did promise he took the pants off after he noticed Libby was hot.

More news to report – we are set to begin major construction work at Casa de Barron.  Our plans to add a front porch the length of our house have been approved and we’re meeting with our contruction team this week to walk through the final details.  I am looking forward to spending some gorgeous fall nights on our new front porch!  A trip to IKEA is needed to secure some rocking chairs (I just looked online and it doesn’t look like they have them – has anyone been there recently?)and I am also searching for a front porch swing.

Pasta

PastaAlison sent me this recipe and I made it the other day…it’s fantastic and very easy!

Tortellini and Fresh Basil Salad
2 (9 ounce) packages frozen cheese filled tortellini, uncooked
1 pound ripe tomatoes, seeded and chopped (I used grape tomatoes)
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/3 cup chopped fresh basil
¼ cup chopped fresh parsley
¼ cup olive oil
3 Tbsp. balsamic vinegar
½ tsp salt
½ tsp pepper

Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain and rinse with cold water, drain.
Combine tomato and remaining 7 ingredients; add pasta, and toss well. Cover and chill thoroughly. Yield 6 servings.

Hat girl

Girl in the Yarmulke
I love, love, love babies in hats! It was cool on Saturday morning, so Libby donned one (that matched her PJs, naturally) for the Farmer’s Market. I love, love, love this photo of her!

Cosmos anyone?

I bought tiny 1 inch pots and cosmos seeds in the $1 section at Target thinking the pots would be cute on the window sill in my kitchen. I never imagined they would (1) grow too big for the window sill pots, (2) survive after we planted them outside and (3) grow as large as they are. Libby and I discovered our first flower the other day, walking the grounds as we do a few times everyday. Pretty good for $1. While in New England, I found a similar pot to grow pumpkins in for next year; I think Libby will love that.

We’ve slowly but surely been working on the landscaping around the perimeter of the house. Mike did a great job edging one side (where we planted two Lilac bushes shortly after Libby was born…we hope to continue the tradition for each child we have). Next we have to work on the back of the house (where the cosmos are); next year I hope to have a garden in the back. The other side of the house also needs some work. I think we’re going to fill that space with low maintenance day lilies. I found some really neat ones called lavender vistas that I’d like to mix in with the more traditional yellow day lilies.
