Time flies!

It’s hard to believe 3 years ago today Mike and I said “I Do”.  Unfortunately, Mike and I haven’t spent an October 11th together since our first anniversary. . .I am hoping this trend will come to an end for #4 . . . we’ll have a 7 month old afterall.  Happy Anniversary, Mike – see you “soonish”.

Interesting Research

TV.jpgI came across an interesting article on CNN.com about children, tv watching during the school week and school performance. As a soon-to-be-parent, I enjoyed this quote:

One question all parents are going to be faced with (from their children) is ‘Can I have TV in my room?’ There’s a simple two-letter answer for that.

How do you like them apples?

On the road again

venice.jpgOr should I say on the train . . . today Susan and I are headed from Rome to Venice by train.  The trip should take about 5 hours.  I’m looking forward to seeing the “city built on water” (also known as the sinking city) but I’m a little nervous about making it from the train station to our hotel.  I guess we’ll get used to the water taxi system very fast!  I read an interesting article on Venice in the NYT last weekend.  Ciao!

The good. The bad and the ugly.

The good!  My Mom arrived safely in Rome yesterday – yeah!  Today we are switching hotels (yeah!) and heading into the center of Rome.

The bad and the ugly – that’s me.  I seemed to have developed a large rash over part of my body where I applied some stretch mark prevention lotion.  I started using the lotion about a week ago, but developed the very itchy problem on Wednesday night.  I am miserable and I don’t look too hot either.  I looked for the Italian version of calamine lotion last night at the local grocery store with no luck. . . keep your fingers crossed that we fine some.  This is what I get for being vain!

Introducing . . .

baby boy.jpgMicah Palmer Johnson . . .no photos yet (he’s child #3, what do you expect?!) but Micah and Mom came home today and everyone is doing well.  Grandma B. has been there since Monday and Grandpa B. is arriving this weekend (apparently the Johnson’s were in the middle of a kitchen remodel when Micah arrived 3 weeks early, so Grandpa is going to put his renovating skills to good work).

Pizza, Gelato and Grey’s

Greys episode 2.jpgIt was a low key night here last night.  I ran to the “mall” next door to the hotel and grabbed some pizza and gelato.  Since we are outside central Rome there is a large language barrier.  This resulted in “ok” pizza but excellent pistachio gelato!  When I got back to the hotel I made a quick call to say good night to Mike and then returned to my room to get caught up on episode 2 of Grey’s Anatomy.  COULD THAT SHOW *BE* ANY BETTER?!  Episode 3 airs tomorrow and I can’t wait to see it. . .if my husband is feeling nice, I am hoping it will make its way to me by Friday.

A short venture into Roma!

TivoliFountain.jpgFour of us (all from the US)ventured into Rome last night by pre-arranged car.  It took us about 45 minutes to get to our restuarant that was located close to the train station.  We enjoyed a great (expensive) dinner at Agate e Romeo (we could not get a reservation at the restaurant pictured below).  We enjoyed a variety of breads and breadsticks with curry and paprika , mini pizzas and warm cheese and corn muffins before moving onto our first and second courses.  I enjoyed the ravioli for my first course and the veal for my second.  Both were excellent.

After dinner our driver asked if we’d like a tour of Rome – “why not?” we thought!  Our driver took us to many great sites including Trevi Fountain (pictured above), the Spanish steps, the grave of Julius Ceasar, the Pantheon, the Coliseum and past countless piazzas.  What a great way to see the sights at night – with an Italian tour guide/driver.

I did not have my camera, but Lynne took a few pictures.  I will post as soon as she sends them to me.

Eventful weekend for the Barron’s

Happy Day.jpgOn Saturday Mike celebrated another birthday.  Although I could not be there to celebrate with him, Heather and Bob did a great job celebrating in my place.  Heather got Mike cake and ice cream and they celebrated at halftime during the Notre Dame/Purdue game (coinsidentally, my parents attended that game in South Bend).  HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MIKE – I miss you!

Not only did Mike celebrate a birthday, but his sister Julie gave birth to a baby boy, 3 weeks early!  There’s no name yet, but Mom and son are doing well.  Mike is very excited that he and his newest nephew share the same birthdate.  I’ll keep you posted on names. . .

P.S. I am in Rome, well, outside of Rome at a crappy hotel.  It should be an interesting week as this hotel does not have the level of customer service I am acustom to.  I am trying to find a hotel in Rome for the few days my Mom and I have here to see the sites.  I went to the front desk of the crappy hotel and told them I wanted to go for a walk.  I asked “what can I walk to or see?”.  Their reply “nothing” . . . nice!
